Risk and Compliance Officer

This is a broad and varied role, covering all aspects of compliance and risk related matters as they pertain to a limited liability partnership (LLP).

The role will encompass a broad range of responsibilities, including assisting with the design, review and implementation of policies, controls, and procedures, undertaking compliance audits, delivering training on various Regulatory matters, and supporting the Director of Risk and Compliance on various activities.

The role will report directly to the Director of Risk and Compliance.


Compliance Advisory and Management Information (MI) Reporting

  • Working with the Director of Compliance to review/draft or amend policies and procedures, and assist with monitoring controls adequacy and effectiveness;
  • Horizon scanning – Actively monitoring the Legal and Regulatory landscape to identify any upcoming legislation/ regulation which may impact the legal sector, and assisting the Director of Risk and Compliance in documenting a gap analysis against current policies and procedures;
  • Management Information Reporting - Preparing regular Management Information (MI) reports for the Risk Committee, including documenting key themes and trends;

Operational Compliance

  • AML/Sanctions queries – first point of contact for day-to-day AML/Sanctions queries;
  • Key point of contact when engaging with the firm’s external AML Onboarding platform provider on matters relating to the client onboarding process and ongoing review process;
  • Conflicts queries – engaging with fee earners on follow up questions relating to potential conflicts and recording responses.

Audit and Assurance

  • Responsible for undertaking monthly compliance audits and ad-hoc assurance reviews, ensuring that any key compliance risk issues are identified and documented for onward review by the Director and Compliance.
  • Active tracking and monitoring of results required as part of the audit process.
  • Assisting with ISO 9001 audits and assisting with other quality accreditation schemes as required.


  • Assisting in delivering training programmes for all staff, to ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory and legislative requirements.


  • Coordinating responses for supplier due diligence questionnaires;
  • Assisting the Director of Compliance in the gathering of information internally in response to requests for information made by Regulatory Authorities
  • Performing administrative tasks such as file creation and maintaining files for ongoing projects.


Essential – educated to degree level or equivalent experience level

Essential - at least 2 years in a similar role, working in the Legal or Financial Services sector

Skills & Abilities

• Working knowledge of the UK Anti Money Laundering (AML)/Counter Terrorist Financing(CTF)/ Counter Proliferation Financing(CPF) legal and regulatory requirements, including The Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and Transfer of Funds (Information on the Payer) Regulations 2017), Proceeds of Crime Act (2022), and other legislation impacting the Legal Sector, including Sanctions Legislation.
• Knowledge of conduct and economic crime risks impacting the UK and Ireland Legal Sector.
• Ability to undertake research and assimilate data quickly for presentation to the Director of Risk and Compliance on various subject matters.
• Excellent drafting and communications skills, including the ability to communicate with staff at all levels throughout the business.
• Ability to manage processes efficiently, with accuracy and precision focus.
• Ability to practically demonstrate your understanding of relevant internal procedures and policies when providing responses to AML/Sanctions queries.
• Good planning, time management and prioritisation skills.
• Ability to work under pressure when dealing with changing demands.
• A recognised AML/Compliance qualification is desirable but not essential.
• Knowledge of AML onboarding compliance solutions, e.g. Legl, Know Your Customer, Lexis Nexis is desirable but not essential.
