Carson McDowell was pleased to continue its partnership with the team at the MA Master’s Degree in Journalism at Ulster University, Coleraine.

Fergal McGoldrick, an Associate in Carson McDowell’s Media and Defamation Team, recently delivered a practical lecture entitled “Tales from the Frontline: Media Law in Practice” to the graduate students on the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) accredited course, before participating in an informative Q&A with students and lecturers.

The session concentrated on the practical aspects of media law and drew on recent examples from the Courts in Belfast, London and Dublin, focusing on areas such as defamation, privacy, injunctions, reporting restrictions and contempt of court.

Milne Rowntree, Lecturer on the MA Masters in Journalism commented: “It was great for our students to complement the media law theory they learn on the Master’s course with a practical perspective from a solicitor working in the field.”

Fergal McGoldrick, Associate, Carson McDowell Media Team commented: “We were very pleased to continue our partnership and share our knowledge and experience with the students of the award winning MA in Journalism at Ulster, and hope that the lecture and Q&A prove useful in their exams and on into their careers in journalism”.
