Hotel Logistics apologises to Ulster Carpets
Carson McDowell’s Media, Communications & Reputation team is pleased to have assisted Ulster Carpets in its recent dispute with Hotel Logistics Limited, securing an apology, legal costs and a substantial charitable donation to the John Wilson Memorial Trust.
The dispute arose after Ulster Carpets was made aware of a number of posts appearing on the LinkedIn page of a senior officer of Hotel Logistics Limited. Each of the posts included an image of a carpet and suggested that the carpet was designed and manufactured by Hotel Logistics.
In fact, the images were of carpets designed and manufactured by Ulster Carpets, as part of its world-renowned business supplying high-quality luxury carpets to a variety of five-star hotels and cruise ships globally.
Following appropriate pre-action correspondence, Hotel Logistics agreed to publish an apology on the LinkedIn page.
The apology read:
“AN APOLOGY TO ULSTER CARPETS
On a number of occasions over the past year images were published on my LinkedIn profile which were asserted to be the work of Hotel Logistics, for marketing purposes. These images were published owing to an error on the part of the marketing department of Hotel Logistics. Having received correspondence from Ulster Carpets’ solicitors, Hotel Logistics and I accept that each of those images in fact depicted Ulster Carpets’ designs, where Ulster Carpets also manufactured and supplied the carpet for each project. Neither I, nor Hotel Logistics, was involved in any of these projects. Hotel Logistics and I apologise to Ulster Carpets for these activities. In order to bring this matter to a close we have agreed to make a substantial donation to a charity of Ulster Carpets’ choosing, and to pay Ulster Carpets’ legal costs.”
Hotel Logistics also agreed to make a substantial charitable donation to the John Wilson Memorial Trust, and discharge Ulster Carpets’ legal costs.
Judith Cuddy, Director at Ulster Carpets said:
“We are pleased that this unfortunate issue has been concluded to our satisfaction, and that a local charity will significantly benefit as a result.”
Media, Communications & Reputation Senior Associate Fergal McGoldrick acted for Ulster Carpets in the dispute.
