James is an Associate in the Commercial team at Carson McDowell.
He graduated in May 2019 with a degree in Law and Politics (LLB) from Queen’s University, Belfast and began his apprenticeship at Carson McDowell that September. He qualified as a solicitor in September 2021 having obtained a postgraduate diploma with distinction from the Institute of Professional Legal Studies in Belfast.
As an Associate in the Commercial team, James advises on a range of commercial matters including general commercial contracts, technology and innovation, intellectual property and data protection.
Having been recently appointed King’s Counsel in 2024, Peter Hopkins is a Civil practitioner with expertise in a full range of Commercial and Chancery actions. In particular, Peter is renowned for his expertise in IP cases as well as in matters concerning employment and is regularly instructed by a range of corporate clients including media organisations and social media companies in privacy, defamation and data protection claims. Peter’s involvement in recent and notable decisions include Ulster Garden Villages v Farrans (Construction) Limited and ors [2024] NIKB 15 and Morrison v Swann & Department of Health [2023] NICA 19.
