Socialisation of Grid Costs in Northern Ireland
Overview
The Department for the Economy has today announced a major change to grid connection charging in Northern Ireland. From early 2026, electricity network reinforcement costs will be fully socialised, meaning these costs will be shared across all customers rather than charged to individual projects. The decision has been widely welcomed by industry representative organisations like CBI NI and Renewable NI.
