Laura McKee

Laura obtained her degree in Common and Civil Law with Hispanic Studies at Queens’ University Belfast and the University of Salamanca, Spain. She was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in 2008 and obtained a Certificate in Advanced Advocacy in 2013. Laura joined Carson McDowell’s Healthcare team in 2021 from another leading Commercial Law firm in Belfast where she specialised in defence insurance litigation with a particular focus on the defence of fraudulent motor claims and providing advice on policy/indemnity issues.

Since joining Carson McDowell, Laura has exclusively acted for medical defence organisations in the defence of high-value and complex clinical negligence claims. Laura currently leads on the defence and resolution of claims arising from Northern Ireland’s largest patient Recall process. Laura has extensive advocacy experience, appearing in Court on a regular basis and conducting negotiations without the instruction of Counsel. She provides regular training sessions to clients on a variety of clinical negligence topics and has been recognised for her expertise in Chambers and Partners UK Guide 2025.

Laura has a keen interest in the innovative use of technology to support the provision of high-quality legal service to clients and also is heavily involved in the collation and analysis of Management Information for key institutional clients of the Healthcare team.
